As the tracking device, we have chosen to use Windows Smartphone or PDA, as they have become reasonably cheap, the GPS module are highly sensitive and the communication module supports most of modern GPRS protocols.
One of the main purposes is to find if such a device will "survive" being airborne, as the GPRS network are primarily targeted on devices used on ground. When airborne, a cell phone will "see" many antennas, and the decision on witch antenna or base station to use will be difficult, based on the fact that the difference in signal strength from different base stations will be small, dependent on height.
The tracking data from a device will be indentified on our database via a user ID. We are currently only recording a track with the following position sample data:
- Date and time
- Longitude and latitude
- Height above mean sea level
- Speed over ground
- Heading
- Number of satellites in use
- Accuracy of the sample
For the time being, the SeeMe tracking system can be used free of charge. Depending on how the project evolves, we will evaluate whether this service will be open only to paying customers.
Please note that the GPRS traffic your device are sending will be charged by your operator, dependent on their price policy.
Glider tracking

Gliding shares a problem with many sports, they are not visible to the audiance when compeeting. With the SeeMe technology, one can have a public display on the pilots achivements, knowing where they are and how they are doing in the competition.
